Greetings, Louisville. We worked--we moved, cleaned, repaired, built--for 6 straight weeksand got the MAMMOTH ready for the Derby Fest and other upcoming events. We are deeply grateful to the dozens of volunteers who came over day after day to help us with the mammoth task of clearing out 23,000 sf of storage and decades of settled dust. And we can't fail to mention an amazing crew of workers who lent their skill and imagination to repair and build new structures. It has been truly inspiring to watch unfold around us. THANK YOU ALL!!! - The MAMMOTH Team
Also, thanks to all the bands, artists, volunteers and visitors we had at the 2012 Derby Show. It was an amazing night of music, art, giant moons, helicopter spotlights and motorcycle races--a HUGE success for our first music event!!!
STORAGE: Dear Friends - Do you have a storage space? What would it take in order for The MAMMOTH to earn your storage business? Many of the storage facilities in Louisville are corporate chains. We have two floors in The MAMMOTH that are locked down and dedicated to storage. Letting us earn your business will help to generate extra funds to put in bathrooms, improve the event space, and start to build studios for artists. We can handle big and small storage needs, residential and commercial. Please spread the word! We are depending on our strong social network, and we are willing to work hard to provide excellent service. Contact for quotes! =)
If you or someone you know would like to support the progress at the MAMMOTH by moving your storage to our space, please get in touch by email - info@themammoth.org Here's our beautiful web-sized brochure:

We have been getting a lot of inquiries and visits from interested artists and musicians lately and really feel good about the community support we're getting. Although we wish we were better equipped to fit everyone in immediately, we just don't have the funds to build out and open up the second floor--yet. As we stick to hosting events for now,
we are trying to ramp up our storage business with a quickness. Once we can fully cover the bills/ subsidize building out in the warehouse, we will be ready to accomodate you.
Our next event is this Saturday, May 12, 2012:
-
touring his new album, Music for Amplified Piano, Danish musician Mikkel Almholt comes to Louisville to mess with our time-space continuum via mic'd acoustic piano on effects pedals.

Why we're doing this:
Besides needing large studio spaces near our living space, and wanting a community of people to work around, we recognize that there's a problem with the fact that Louisville has very little in the way of artists run warehouse space. We know other people also think that Louisville needs a place for new possibilities. This is an opportunity for people with dreams, skills and energy to come together and make something as a community. Imagine another local art cooperative/ more art studios/ open meeting spaces/ an installation space and art gallery/ live/work spaces/ an independent media center/ band practice spaces/a great live music venue/ a truly unique film viewing space/ a recording studio/ an underground local music.art museum/ more community gardens and green space/ sculpture gardens/and who knows what else? Access to an open workable, community run space will give artists and other creatives an opportunity to invest in themselves by having the choice to either rent or (eventually) purchase the space they work in year after year, while themselves being able to interact with other artists and like-minded people. It's up to the community to work together and make things happen here. Get in touch and let's see what's possible.
